A private aristocratic collection still held by the Doria Pamphilj family, in their palace on Via del Corso. More than 400 paintings hang salon-style through gilded state rooms, including Velázquez's portrait of Pope Innocent X and works by Caravaggio, Raphael and Titian. Despite its central address it stays notably quiet compared with Rome's state museums.
Old-master masterpieces in a lived-in palace you can wander at your own pace, without museum crowds.
