A cafe worth a slow morning · Tokyo, Japan

A teahouse on a small island in the tidal pond at the centre of Hama-rikyū Gardens, reached by long wooden bridges. Originally an Edo-period resting pavilion for the shogun and rebuilt after the war to the historical plans, it is the only teahouse in the garden that actually operates as a café. You take your shoes off and sit on tatami with the windows open onto the water and the Shiodome towers beyond.
Matcha on tatami over a saltwater pond, with the office towers kept at a safe distance.
