Mesa de Frades is a small Alfama fado house on Rua dos Remédios, set inside a former 18th-century chapel lined with original blue-and-white azulejo tiles. Dinner is served first, and the fado begins late, often running past midnight with both rising and established singers. Its size and tiled walls make for an unusually intimate, resonant room.
Late-night fado in a tiny tiled former chapel, one of Alfama's most atmospheric rooms.
