A temple people come back to · Seoul, South Korea

The Confucian royal ancestral shrine of the Joseon dynasty, begun in 1394 to house the spirit tablets of deceased kings and queens, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. Its defining structure is Jeongjeon, an austere, unusually long single-roof hall fronted by a raised stone ritual courtyard, set in a wooded compound of quiet forest paths.
The most solemn historic space in central Seoul, with a stripped-back monumental architecture unlike anything at the palaces.
