A table worth the trip · Hanoi, Vietnam
A narrow two-floor counter at 73–75 Hàng Điếu that has served essentially one dish since 1986: bún bò Nam Bộ, a dry noodle salad of wok-seared beef over vermicelli with bean sprouts, herbs, peanuts and fried shallots in a sweet-sour dressing. A southern dish that Hanoi adopted and this family made its own. Portions are large, prices are street-food low, and the room runs from 7:30am to 10:30pm without a break.
One dish, four decades, no distractions — the noodle bowl half of Hàng Điếu eats standing up.
