Mexico's largest and most visited museum, on Paseo de la Reforma inside Chapultepec, designed by Pedro Ramírez Vázquez and opened in 1964 around a courtyard shaded by a single vast concrete canopy, 'el paraguas'. Twenty-two halls run from the Olmec through the Maya and Mexica, holding the Aztec Sun Stone (Piedra del Sol) and colossal Olmec heads.
The definitive walk through Mexico's ancient civilisations, laid out room by room under a landmark modernist roof.
