The temple of the Hindu Temple Society of North America, founded in 1970 on the site of a former Russian Orthodox church at 45-57 Bowne Street and consecrated on 4 July 1977, making it the second-oldest Hindu temple in the United States built by Indian immigrants. It is a South Indian temple dedicated to Ganesha, with more than thirty carved deity figures, a gilded entrance tower and further shrines to Raghavendra Swamy and Khodiyar Mata. A community centre, auditorium and wedding halls adjoin it. Open daily, 8am to 8.30pm on weekdays and from 7.30am at weekends.
