A trail people talk about · Hanoi, Vietnam
A spiral earthwork citadel covering roughly 2 km² in Đông Anh, north of the Red River, regarded as one of the earliest cities in Vietnam and designated a national special heritage site in 2012. Three concentric ramparts survive: an outer wall over 8,000 m long and 3–4 m high, rising above 8 m in places; a middle wall of 6,500 m reaching 10 m with four gates; and an inner rectangle 1,650 m around. Each ring had its own moat, 10 to 30 m wide, all three interlinked and joined to the Hoàng river. The walls follow the contours rather than straight lines, which is why the place reads as a maze.
Walk two thousand years of earth wall through gardens, fishponds and village lanes — no ticket gate, no crowd.
