Parque Nacional da Tijuca protects one of the world's largest urban forests, roughly 39 sq km of replanted Atlantic rainforest draping Rio's central massif. Trails link waterfalls such as Cascatinha Taunay, the Vista Chinesa and Mesa do Imperador viewpoints, caves, and old coffee-estate ruins. It shelters monkeys, toucans and hundreds of bird species minutes from the city.
A vast Atlantic-rainforest wilderness of waterfalls, viewpoints and wildlife wrapped around the middle of the city.
