A 38-hectare park opened in 1917 as Japan's first suburban park, five minutes' walk from Kichijoji Station. Its centre is a long pond with rowboat, pedal-boat and swan-boat rental, ringed by roughly 400–500 cherry trees whose branches hang out over the water. The Ghibli Museum sits in the park's southern section, and a Benzaiten shrine stands on the pond's edge.
The pond-and-cherry-trees combination, plus Kichijoji's shopping streets right at the gate for afterwards.
