The experience
Opened in 1909 and modelled on the Paris Opera, the Theatro Municipal is Rio's grand home for opera, ballet and orchestral music. The eclectic Belle Epoque building on Cinelandia square features a marble staircase, gilded interiors, mosaic detailing and a ceiling painting by Eliseu Visconti. It remains the seat of the city's symphony orchestra and ballet company.
