A landmark that earns the queue · Taipei, Taiwan
A block of one- and two-storey Qing, Japanese-era and post-war shophouses along Lane 173, Kangding Road, restored by the city between 1999 and 2009 and formally listed in 2010. The name most likely comes from bark stripping at a nearby timber depot, though hide tanning and a Japanese mispronunciation of an earlier name are rival theories. The 2008 film Monga was shot here and put the block on the map.
Wanhua's oldest surviving street block, arcades and all, one lane from the Longshan Temple crush.
