Jardin Bio-Aromatique de l'Ourika

The experience

Morocco's first organic garden of aromatic and medicinal plants, planted in 1998 on a single terraced hectare at 840 metres, 35 km south-east of Marrakech on the R203 in the Ourika valley. Around fifty species grow here, and the garden is a working supply for the Nectarome essential-oil brand rather than an ornamental showpiece — the beds are labelled with what each plant is actually used for. You can wander it alone or take a guide, then sit for a salt foot bath under the trees. The drive from the city takes about 45 minutes.
