A market locals actually shop · Taipei, Taiwan
Taipei's grand old provisions market, opened in 1907 under Japanese rule as Chiensui Market and renamed Nanmen in 1946. It is the city's reference point for mainland Jiangsu and Zhejiang cooking — cured meats, sausages, dried goods, sauces, noodles and festival cakes — with roughly 254 tenants. After years in a temporary hall on Hangzhou Road it reopened in November 2023 inside a purpose-built tower on Roosevelt Road, air-conditioned and spread over several floors. It takes Mondays off.
The 1907 market where Taipei still buys its Jiangzhe cured meats and festival cakes, now air-conditioned.
