The experience
A grazed lava plateau in the middle of Yangmingshan, laid out as a flat 2.4 km loop that takes 45 to 50 minutes at a stroll. Water buffalo fostered by local farmers wander the grass, and the ground is open enough that you watch the weather change on top of you. The Jinbaoli Gate at the edge of the grassland is the head of the Jinbaoli Old Road — the nineteenth-century Fish Road that porters used to carry catch from the Jinshan coast over the mountain into Taipei. It is the easiest big-landscape walk in the park and suits all ages.
