Established by King Chulalongkorn in 1874, the Bangkok National Museum is the largest museum in Southeast Asia and occupies the former Front Palace beside Sanam Luang. Its galleries trace Thai art and history from prehistory through the Bangkok period, and its holdings include the Ram Khamhaeng inscription, listed on UNESCO's Memory of the World register. Several original palace buildings, including an ornate funeral-chariot hall, stand within the grounds.
The definitive collection for understanding Thai art in order, in the palace where it belongs.
